ADG Packing Codes P908 and P911 are selected by condition not by guesswork
Used, damaged, defective and recalled batteries are assessed before transport. For damaged or defective batteries, P908 or P911 may apply depending on whether the battery presents a critical reaction risk under normal transport conditions.
P908 damaged or defective
For applicable lithium-ion, lithium-metal and sodium-ion cells and batteries that are damaged or defective but are not assessed as liable to rapidly disassemble, dangerously react, produce flame, dangerous heat or dangerous emissions during transport.
P911 critical transport risk
For damaged or defective cells and batteries liable to rapidly disassemble, dangerously react, produce flame or dangerous heat, or emit toxic, corrosive or flammable gases or vapours under normal transport conditions.
Transport Pathway
A used or end-of-life battery that is not damaged or defective may follow another ADG pathway, including P909 for disposal or recycling. Final classification and packaging are job-specific.
